The Director of Engineering will lead and oversee all technical teams at our orthodontic & dental marketing agency, with a focus on leveraging AI and automation to enhance workflows and productivity. This role encompasses management of the WordPress, AgencyFramework (Internal Reporting Tool), and Custom Application Development teams, ensuring high-quality code, robust security, and efficient development processes. The Director will work hands-on with the teams, directly contributing to the codebase, and aligning all technological developments with our goal of maximizing ROI for our orthodontic and dental clients.

The ideal candidate is a leader with a strong technical background, capable of bridging the gap between cutting-edge technology and practical business applications. You should be passionate about AI and automation, with the ability to identify and implement innovative solutions that drive efficiency and deliver measurable results for our clients. Your expertise should span across various technologies, including WordPress, custom application development (React/Node.js/Python), and modern AI tools and frameworks, with specific experience in creating AI agents to increase efficiency internally.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership & Strategy:

  • Lead and manage the WordPress, AgencyFramework, and Custom Application Development teams.
  • Develop and implement a cohesive technology strategy focused on AI integration and automation to maximize efficiency internally and Client ROI externally.
  • Oversee the hiring, development, and performance management of team members, ensuring optimal performance and retention of top talent.
  • Ensure the AI strategy is a core component of the overall technology roadmap, focusing on both internal efficiencies and client-facing services.
  • Continuously evaluate and adapt the technology strategy to stay ahead of industry trends, particularly in AI and automation.

Technical Oversight:

  • Supervise the architecture and development of WordPress sites, internal tools, CRM integrations, and custom applications tailored for our clients.
  • Ensure robust security measures, code quality, and adherence to industry standards across all projects.
  • Oversee and continuously improve DevOps practices, focusing on CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and infrastructure as code.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and trends, particularly in AI and automation, to continually improve client outcomes.
  • Guide the development and deployment of AI agents to automate time-consuming tasks and enhance internal efficiency.

AI and Automation Integration:

  • Spearhead the integration of AI and automation technologies into existing workflows and client solutions.
  • Identify opportunities for AI-driven improvements in marketing strategies, client reporting, and internal processes.
  • Develop and implement AI strategies that align with the agency’s business goals, with a particular focus on creating AI agents that increase efficiency.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of AI solutions that deliver measurable results for clients.

Project Management:

  • Plan and manage projects across all teams, ensuring timely and budget-friendly delivery of solutions that enhance ROI for our clients.
  • Coordinate the integration of AI solutions to streamline workflows and improve efficiency.
  • Implement and refine developer workflows and processes to maintain a fast-paced, iterative development cycle.
  • Ensure that all projects not only meet technical specifications but also deliver significant value to clients, aligning with their business goals.
  • Track project outcomes and make data-driven decisions to optimize project performance and resource allocation.

Team Development & Collaboration:

  • Mentor and support the professional growth of team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration between engineering teams and other departments to ensure seamless integration of technology solutions.
  • Work hands-on with teams in coding and problem-solving, leading by example.
  • Promote a culture of innovation, encouraging teams to experiment with and adopt new technologies, particularly in AI and automation.
  • Develop individual development plans for team members, ensuring they grow with the evolving technological landscape.

Client and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with internal teams and clients to understand their needs and translate them into technical requirements.
  • Present technical concepts and project updates to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of value and progress.
  • Provide thought leadership in the dental and orthodontic industries, positioning our company as a technology innovator.

Performance Monitoring and Optimization:

  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for all technical projects and team performance.
  • Continuously analyze and optimize development processes, code quality, and project outcomes.
  • Implement data-driven decision-making processes across all engineering initiatives.

REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in software development, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading engineering teams in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.
  • Experience in developing and deploying AI agents, with a focus on increasing efficiency and automating time-consuming tasks.

Technical Expertise:

  • Strong proficiency in Python and modern JavaScript frameworks.
  • Experience with AI and machine learning technologies, and their practical applications in marketing and business processes.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Google Cloud) and DevOps practices (Gitlab CI/CD).
  • Experience in creating AI agents to automate and enhance internal workflows, improving overall efficiency.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes.

Leadership and Management Skills:

  • Exceptional leadership abilities with experience managing diverse, multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong project management skills and experience with Agile methodologies.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
